WOF congratulates Shaun White on winning gold

Painting by Richard Stergulz
STERGULZ ART

The man who has pushed the envelope the most, Shaun White, won his second Olympic gold medal.
First, he locked down the victory with a solid effort on the first run of the final round. Then, gold medal in his baggy pocket, White thrilled the crowd and his competitors and even himself by taking half-pipe to its next frontier with a successful Double McTwist 1260 - White's newest, state-of-the-pipe signature move.
"I just felt like I didn't come all the way to Vancouver not to pull out the big guns," White said after receiving a score of 48.4 for the second run. "I put down the tricks I've worked so hard on. It was the savvy thing to do. Saucy. Keep it weird."
The pre-Olympic talk about challengers from Finland(Peetu Piiroinen), Switzerland (Iouri "iPod" Podladtchikov), and the United States (Scott Lago, Louie Vito) proved to be just that - talk. The gap between White and the other competitors was apparent even to the most novice half-pipe observers.
It was like watching Ryan Howard take on Julia Robertsin in the Home Run Derby.

Stimulus Plus Plus..... Tell a Friend

According to the County Supervisors website:
The Neighborhood Reinvestment Program provides grant funds to non-profit community organizations (The Vista Conservancy) for one-time community, social, environmental, educational, cultural or recreational needs (we cover them all).
To be eligible, non-profit entities must provide services in one or more of the following areas; educational/recreational projects for children and/or adults (Chamber Canvas Challenge); local business and tourism promotional activities ("Take a Hike" Day, Grand Unveiling); arts and cultural programs (WOF); environmental awareness programs or projects (Creek), including maintaining and increasing open space holdings (Trail); public safety programs (Security in trail) including fire protection projects (Firehouse across creek); or health and social service initiatives (Community Gardens) and programs. Public agencies may apply to fund programs and projects that benefit the community and enhance the region’s quality of life (Open air gallery, nature trails, educational reform programs).
Grant awards are made throughout the fiscal year and there is no deadline for submitting an application.
A higher priority shall be given to requests for capital projects and/or one time expenses.

Monday, February 8, 2010

Discussed the North County Walk of Fame with Supervisor Horn.
The Vista Conservancy will apply for Supervisor Horn's Neighborhood Reinvestment Program. This program provides grant funds to non-profit community organizations for one-time community, social, environmental, educational, cultural or recreational needs.
To be eligible, non-profit entities must provide services in one or more of the following areas; educational/recreational projects for children and/or adults; tourism promotional activities; arts and cultural programs; environmental awareness programs or projects, including maintaining and increasing open space holdings; and/or public safety programs; Public agencies may apply to fund programs and projects that benefit the community and enhance the region’s quality of life.
Sounds perfect for the open air gallery.

Congressman Darrell Issa

North County Walk of Fame will include Congressman Issa.

C
ongressman Issa and his wife Kathy live in Vista, CA. Congressman Darrell Issa represents the people of California’s 49th Congressional
District in the United States House of Representatives, a seat he has held since 2001.At the height of his career in business, Issa served as CEO of Vista based Directed Electronics, a company that Issa founded and built in the mid-1990s to become the nation’s largest manufacturer of vehicle anti-theft devices, including the highly-successful Viper system.  In 1994, Issa was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc. Magazine, Ernst & Young and The San Diego Union Tribune.
A great addition to the North County Walk of Fame.
